The app is all about showcasing the more than 5 million classical music tracks available on Apple Music.

“We love music — that’s really what we’re all about — and classical music is foundational to music of all genres,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats. “Apple Music Classical is a dedicated app that is great for classical experts as well as anyone who is new to classical, with the largest classical music selection in the world, the very best search and browse capabilities, the most premium sound experience with Spatial Audio, and thousands of exclusive recordings. We believe this is the very best classical music streaming experience available anywhere, and for us, this is just the beginning.”

Classical music is a different animal when compared to modern tunes. The app has redesigned search to show users exactly what they are looking for with a combination of keywords like from composer, work, opus number, conductor, artist, and more.

The Apple Music Classical interface is also designed for classical music. You can see information like the work name, orchestra, conductor, contributing artists, and year of recording. When creating a library, you can also add categories like works, composers, and recordings.

The music features lossless audio of up to 24 bit/192 kHz with thousands of recordings in Spatial Audio.

To get started, there are more than 700 playlists to guide listeners. Beginners can start with The Story of Classical audio guides that blend expert commentary with selected works.

You can also explore the catalog using the browse tab that groups the music in composers, periods, genres, and more.

Apple has also partnered with a number of classical music institutions worldwide to bring new, exclusive content to the service.

You’ll need an Apple Music subscription to use the iPhone-only app. That’s $10.99 per month for an individual or $16.99 per month for a family plan. There is also a college student option for $5.99 per month.

A subscription is also available as part of many Apple One bundles.

Just to note, it’s not available with the Apple Music Voice Plan.
