WWDC 2017: Apple Officially Unveils iOS 11
Apple has just announced the next generation of iOS, iOS 11, at the WWDC 2017 keynote in San Jose, California.
As expected, there are a number of new features. Most notably, Siri is getting a different and clearer voice that was provided by machine learning. The personal assistant will also be able to provide translation between languages. There will also be more ways third-party developers can put Siri to work with SiriKit.
Other new features are coming to Camera, Photos, and iMessages. In the popular Message app, the app drawer has been redesigned and easier to navigate through. With the Messages in iCloud, you can find all of your conversations on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Camera will take advantage of new encoding technology to help make images and photos take up less space. In the Photos app, there will be even more memories to experience.
With Apple Pay, users will now be able to make person-to-person payments much like Venmo or Square Cash.
Thankfully, the Control Center is getting a huge makeover and now only takes up one page with no need to scroll. It takes advantage of 3D Touch throughout. The lock screen and Notification Center have now also been combined.
Users will be able to take advantage of do not disturb notifications. When in the car, notifications will be muted. Any who tries to contact you will also receive a canned response saying you’re not available. The technology will activate when your phone is connected to any Bluetooth car entertainment system.
HomeKit support is now also coming to speakers. The new AirPlay 2 protocol is designed to take on Sonos and provide multi-room audio.
The new ARKit will allow app developers to make use of augmented reality technology in their apps.
The software will officially land to the public sometime this fall.
