Apple’s ‘Hello Again’ Event Brought News for Apple TV
Apple’s Oct. 27 “Hello Again” event gave us a nice view of the new and improved Macs on the way. But, what about Apple TV? Without anything new in the way of a revamped Apple TV, there are a couple of features to look forward to that foster Apple’s “Unified TV Experience.”
New Apple TV app
Simply named TV, this new app will provide movie and TV spotlight sections, an Up Next feature so that you can pick up on a show where you left off, and Watch Now to start a show with a click. The app will also work with iPhone and iPad, will be free, and will be available by the end of the year.
Live TV with Siri
To go along with the new experience, Siri will help you with live television. For example, a command like “watch CBS News” will open the correct app and immediately display live TV. You can then swipe up within the app for more details.
A “watch the Louisville game” command, for instance, will pop open the appropriate app offering the live game. Siri will also display other games scheduled, current scores, and where to watch games with a simple request.
Other Apple TV news
Also announced today, Minecraft will be coming to Apple TV by the end of 2016, which is good news for fans of the game.
For those interested in some numbers, Apple TV now has 8,000 apps across all categories as well as 2,000 games.
