Listening to podcasts in the car just got even better with Castro. The latest update to the popular podcast client brings CarPlay, Widget and Quick Actions, and even a solid price drop.

With the second major update to Castro: Podcast Player, developer Supertop brings a host of new features to an already fantastic podcast app.

With version 2.2, you can now use Castro in your Car (assuming it’s equipped with CarPlay functionality), play new podcasts right from your iOS 10 Control Center, and new users can get the app for much less than previously.

CarPlay

CarPlay

Listening to podcasts in the car is one of my favorite ways to consume them. Without any distractions to pull me away, I can focus on the audio experience much more closely.

With Castro, once you’ve queued up the podcast episodes you want to listen to, it’s just one tap to start them playing.

Castro has a much more shallow hierarchy than other podcast apps, according to John Voorhees at MacStories, plus a new tabbed interface, that make it much easier to interact with while driving. No more drilling down playlists and collections to find what you want to listen to.

Widget & Quick Actions

Widget & Quick Actions

Castro’s new Widget functionality lets you add the app to your Home and Lock screen, making it much more convenient to start up a podcast without launching the app itself.

When you add the widget in iOS 10 (tapping Edit once you’ve swiped right on the Home or Lock Screen), you’ll be able to pull up and play the next four to twelve episodes in your queue without dropping into the Castro app.

If you’ve got an iPhone that does 3D Touch, you can tap and hold on Castro’s app icon to show the widget and choose your podcast episode that way, as well. Other Quick Actions include starting a sleep timer, searching for a podcast with the clipboard, and going right to the Inbox or Queue with a force press on the icon.

Price Drop

Finally, you can get all this podcast catching goodness for 20 percent off the original price. Be sure to grab yourself a copy of Castro in the App Store today and get CarPlay, Widgets and Quick Actions for much less.

The new tabbed interface in Castro makes it much easier to navigate and find what you want to listen to. This feature also translates over to the CarPlay display when your iPhone is in your auto.
