DJI’s new Phantom 4 drone will launch exclusively through Apple
The next-generation of aerial drone from DJI is here. The Phantom 4 can shoot 4K video at 30fps while also capturing 12 megapixel photos in DNG RAW format for maximum editing flexibility. It can be controlled with an iPhone or iPad.
A smarter drone
Easily the standout feature of the new model is its Obstacle Sensing System. Thanks to two forward-facing sensors, the drone scans for any obstacles and automatically pilots the drone around them. That reduces collision risk and ensures you will continue to fly in the same direction.
If the technology determines it can’t fly around the obstacle, it will stop and hover to wait for directions by the pilot.
The ActiveTrack feature can be activated through the companion DJI Go app. It will allow users to follow and keep the camera centered on a specified subject. Just tap the subject on the screen.
Another new feature accessible through the app is TapPlay. You can double tap a destination for the drone on the screen and it will automatically calculate an optimal flight path while avoiding any obstructions.
On the hardware side, the drone has been redesigned with a new look and gimbal that provides more stability and vibration dampening.
A new intelligent battery also allows the drone to fly for up to 28 minutes at a time.

The drone can be controlled with an iPhone or iPad.
The Phantom 4 retails for $1,399. You can preorder the drone directly from Apple’s online store or DJI now. It will officially land on Tuesday, March 15 and be available at Apple Stores worldwide and DJI flagship stores. Other retailers will start sales on Wednesday, March 23.
DJI has quickly risen to become the top consumer drone maker, and the Phantom 4 looks like another amazing piece of technology – especially with the added intelligence features.
