If you’re still reading this, good. Below are some key information that you need to know about Super Mario Run.
How did Super Mario Run end up on mobile?
The first ever Mario game for mobile, Super Mario Run was introduced by Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario himself, at Apple’s iPhone 7 event in September.
Since then, both Apple and Nintendo, the company that owns the Mario franchise, have been heavily promoting the game ahead of its Dec. 15 launch.
Shortly after the game’s announcement, Apple put up the App Store page for Super Mario Run with the game’s description and screenshots along with a button that allows prospective players to be notified once the game is released. Nintendo also released Super Mario Run Stickers in time for the launch of iMessage app support in iOS 10.

A live-action commercial for Super Mario Run was also released by Nintendo last week. Check it out:
And now, as expected, Super Mario Run is out on iOS, and players around the world are now able to download Super Mario Run from the App Store onto their iPhones and iPads. (Android users won’t be able to download Super Mario Run onto their smartphones and tablets until it’s released on Android sometime in 2017.)
What is Super Mario Run?
Super Mario Run is a side-scrolling auto-runner platformer with simple touch controls that make it playable with only one hand. As Mario, the titular portly plumber, constantly runs forward, you, the player, has to tap at the right times and spots to make Mario jump, thereby scaling walls, avoiding enemies, collecting coins, and more.
Super Mario Run has three game modes: World Tour (where you must travel through various courses and environments to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser), Toad Rally (where you play against friends and people from around the world), and Kingdom Builder (where you can build your own Mario kingdom by gathering coins and toads).
Run, Mario, Run!
Mario is finally on iOS! In Super Mario Run, you'll use one-touch tap controls to control Mario as he runs and collects coins.
Face Off Against Bowser
As you go and collect those precious gold coins, you'll also encounter familiar enemies including Goombas, Koopas, Dry Bones, Piranha Plants, and even Bowser.
Toad Battle Mode
Connect with friends online to race against their best times. You get to see a ghost of your friend, as you jump through the same course to try to beat their time. Along the way, you can activate specials and collect toads with daring moves. The toads you befriend can be seen as you build your very own Mushroom Kingdom.
How much does Super Mario Run cost?
You can download Super Mario Run from the App Store for free.
However, the initial download (which weighs in at just over 200MB) includes what is essentially a demo version with only certain elements of the game’s three modes available at no cost. To have unlimited access to all of the three modes, you need to make a one-time in-app purchase of $9.99.
Before you download Super Mario Run (that is, if you haven’t yet), bear in mind that the game requires an always-on internet connection. According to Nintendo, this is necessary to keep all of the three modes functioning together and to keep the software secure from piracy.
Now that you’ve managed to read all the way to the end of this article, apparently all that’s left to do is for you to download Super Mario Run. Wahoo!
