Now You Can Enjoy Showtime Even Without an Internet Connection
One of the shortcomings of Showtime Anytime and the standalone Showtime app has always been that you needed an internet connection to enjoy it. There wasn’t an offline mode for either of the apps, so you weren’t able to watch TV shows or movies when you didn’t have an internet connection. That’s changed, with the addition of a single button. Now you can enjoy Showtime even when you aren’t connected to the internet.
Useful for Cable Subscribers and Cord-Cutters Alike
The change has come to both the Showtime app for cable subscribers and the Showtime Anytime title aimed at cord-cutters. A new download button has been added to both apps, allowing users to save episodes of their favorite Showtime television shows or entire movies to their devices for offline viewing. That way, you can stock up on Showtime content to watch on an airplane or on those cross-country drives when internet access is limited or non-existent. It’s also great for saving cellular bandwidth, if you don’t have unlimited data.

Downloading Your Favorite Content
You’ll find the new button on the details page of any show or movie. If you’re using an iPhone, you can choose standard definition (540p) or high definition (720p). When you’re on your iPad, though, you can also choose 1080p as a download option. The entire Showtime catalog is available for download, including shows like Homeland, Billions, and The Affair. You can also download movies and documentaries, along with sports and comedy specials.
Late to the Game, but at Least Showtime Showed Up
Offline viewing has been a popular feature for quite some time. Netflix and Amazon have already integrated the capability into their mobile apps, but with occasional limitations. For example, Netflix only allows downloads of certain programs and movies. Starz and Epix also provide offline downloads, but HBO is the last holdout of premium networks and doesn’t support the feature.
Several video content providers already allow offline viewing
Unfortunately, HBO hasn't joined in the fun yet
Check for an update to your Showtime or Showtime Anytime app to get the feature. If it doesn’t show up right away, check back later. Sometimes updates take a while to populate to all of the App Stores.
