Google Maps Will Soon Add New Widgets, Better Apple Watch Navigation and More

April 5, 2022

Some great improvements are in store for Google Maps on iOS.

An Independent Apple Watch App

An upcoming update will bring a new Google Maps home screen widget. The pinned trip widget will let you access trips pinned in the Go Tab directly from your home screen. The app’s current search widget will also be made smaller.

The Apple Watch version of the app will soon be made completely independent. That means you won’t need your iPhone nearby to navigate on the watch. You can select a shortcut in the watch app to start navigation.

There will also be a new Take me home complication for your watch face. Select that and navigation will automatically begin.

Information will also soon be integrated into Spotlight, Siri, and Shortcuts.

Another great new feature arriving soon is toll prices to help you select the best and fastest route.

The navigation map is also getting better with more details like traffic lights, stop signs, and improved details on roads.

Google Maps is a free download on the App Store and for the iPhone and all iPad models.
