Apple is planning to add group FaceTime chats in iOS 11. That’s according to a new rumor from Israeli publication The Verifier.

According to the site, which has no previous track record covering Apple rumors, the feature will allow up to five users to video chat simultaneously.

Interestingly, users would be able to start a group video conversation through iMessage.

Even though the information comes from several people familiar with the iOS 11 development process, the site says that the feature might not make the final cut.

Apple should officially unveil iOS 11 during WWDC, which is usually in June. It will go through a number of beta versions before an official release in the fall.

Skype added free group chatting to its iOS app in early 2016.

If Apple did indeed add the feature the next version of iOS – and more than likely macOS as well – it would put the chat service on par with other competitors like Microsoft’s Skype.

Currently, not much information is known about what features Apple plans to add in iOS 11. But hopefully that will change sooner rather than later.

Would you use group FaceTime?
