MetroidVania Action Rules the Day in Dandara for iOS

One of the most gorgeous titles I’ve seen demonstrated at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week wasn’t originally slated for iOS. Revealed at the Nindies Showcase and announced for Nintendo Switch, Dandara is actually being developed for just about every platform you can imagine. TouchArcade went hands-on with Dandara, and says this MetroidVania action title “feels quite natural as a touchscreen game.”

The Next Game From Long Hat House

Long Hat House, the development team behind Dandara, hail from Brazil. In Brazilian history, Dandara was an Afro-Brazilian warrior who fought to defend Palmares, the place where escaped slaves would go to live safely. Dandara is Long Hat House’s second game, coming after its hit title Magenta Arcade.

The latest game is a MetroidVania title, so you’re launching yourself from one safe place to the next. You play as feisty heroine Dandara, exploring a directionless world where the oppressed are on the brink of oblivion. Gravity means nothing in this world, as you launch Dandara from floor to ceiling and everywhere in between. It’s up to Dandara to restore balance to the world, giving direction where none exists.

Fresh Gameplay in Every Level

Long Hat House is still developing various levels for Dandara. Each room is being lovingly put together with hand-crafted pixel art, and a beautiful original soundtrack. The goal is to make each area unique, so no two rooms feel the same. There are a variety of different enemies to defeat and puzzles to solve, along with a myriad of secrets to uncover.

All of the buzz around Dandara is focused on Switch. Even so, publisher Raw Fury says it plans to release the game on as many platforms as possible all at once. Hopefully that means Dandara will come to iOS at around the same time the game releases on Switch and PC. Check out the preview trailer below. Looks fantastic.
