December 19, 2016

One of the most popular games in the world is finally launching on tvOS. Minecraft on Apple TV arrives today, Dec. 19. At the same time, Minecraft: Pocket Edition for iOS has received a big update.

According to the folks over at Mojang, Minecraft for Apple TV arrives with “seven pieces of lovely DLC.” It includes the Holiday 2015, Town Folk, and City Folk skin packs, plus the Plastic, Natural, Cartoon, and Festive 2016 mash-ups.

At launch, the Apple TV Edition doesn’t currently support Minecraft Realms or Xbox Live, although they will be added later.

Both Minecraft for Apple TV and Minecraft: Pocket Edition for iOS include a new Ender Update.

According to Mojang’s Owen Jones:

my personal highlights have to be The Ender Dragon (because I’m Welsh and love dragons), The End (all dragons deserve to have a fitting home to relax in), and the Dragon’s Breath potion (it’s delicious). This update also brings this year’s Festive Mash-Up Pack including all kinds of holiday themed looks.

When it arrives, Minecraft on Apple TV will be priced at $19.99. The universal Minecraft: Pocket Edition is $6.99.

Minecraft on Apple TV was first introduced at Apple’s Mac event on Oct. 27.
