Amazon Prime Video Becomes Most Downloaded Apple TV App Ever

December 18, 2017

The Amazon Prime Video app is now the most downloaded Apple TV app of all time during the first week of release. Amazon made the announcement to BESTAppleTV.com.

In news that shouldn’t come as a surprise, Amazon explains:

Prime Video has been a hit with Apple TV customers around the world — it had the most first-week downloads of any app in the history of tvOS.

First released on Apple TV on Dec. 6, the Amazon Prime Video app allows Prime members to stream unlimited movies and TV shows. What you cannot do is purchase or rent non-Prime titles from the app. The Amazon Prime Video app for iOS also has this restriction. To view newly purchased or rented content from the app, you must first make your purchase via Amazon.com.

The impending arrival of Amazon Prime Video on Apple TV was first announced by Apple CEO Tim Cook in June. At the time, he would only say the service would arrive on the device “later this year.”

With the Amazon Prime Video app now available on Apple TV, Cupertino’s set-top box should soon make a reappearance on Amazon.com. For over two years, Amazon has banned the sale of Apple TV on Amazon.com.
