KGI Analyst Says One 2018 iPhone Model Won't Feature 3D Touch
We’re continuing to hear more information about the 2018 iPhone lineup. In a recent note to investors, via MacRumors, Ming-Chi Kuo talks more about the rumored 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD screen.
The current guess on the 2018 iPhone lineup.
Credit: KGi SecuritiesWhile the next-generation iPhone X and the so-called “iPhone X Plus” with a 6.5-inch OLED screen will sport the most up-to-date features, the 6.1-inch model is shaping up to be a cost-conscious option.
It will offer Face ID, but Kuo says it will offer an aluminum frame, a single-lens rear camera and no 3D Touch capability.
Here’s more from the note:
Development schedule of new 6.1″ LCD iPhone slightly behind 6.5″ and 5.8″ OLED models, but it may enjoy extended longevity into 1H19F, boosting slow season outlook: We predict the 6.1″ LCD iPhone will differ from the 6.5″ and 5.8″ OLED models in terms of certain specs, for reasons of cost/price and product segmentation. However, this shouldn’t have any effect on key user experience. We revise up our price projection for the 6.1″ model from $650-$750 to $700-$800, and remain positive on shipments momentum.
The device will also be similar to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus with a non-stacked logic board and rectangular battery.
Would you buy a new iPhone without 3D Touch? Apple had high hopes for the technology when it was first introduced on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus but it has seemingly faded into the background, especially with app developers. I can’t remember the last time I’ve used a 3D Touch gesture.
