Rich Notifications in iOS 10 Will Eventually Work on Devices Without 3D Touch
One of the more interesting new features in iOS 10 is Rich Notifications. Officially showcased yesterday during the WWDC 2016 keynote, the functionality allows users to view photos and videos or respond to a message directly from a notification.
Only for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, for now
But the feature currently requires use of 3D Touch, which is only offered on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. But according to Apple, that will eventually change:
“Support for rich notifications is optimized for 3D Touch, and in iOS 10 beta 1 the feature is available only on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus,” according to the iOS 10, beta 1 release notes. “Future betas will provide access to this functionality for users of iPhone models without support for 3D Touch.”
More than likely, Apple is still figuring out exactly how to implement Rich Notifications on the older devices.
Apple’s iOS 10 offers a number of new features for users including a redesigned Apple Music, Photos, Messages, and Maps app along with third-party developer support for Siri and more.
Users will also be able to delete some stock Apple apps from their devices and reinstall them if needed.
A public beta version of iOS 10 will arrive next month with an official debut sometime this fall.
The software will be supported on most modern devices including the iPhone 5 and later and the fourth-generation iPad and later.
