Sphero Introduces Two New 'Star Wars' Droids, R2-D2 and BB-9E
The popular BB-8 toy from Sphero has some more company. Sphero has just unveiled two new drones from the “Star Wars” universe, BB-9E and R2-D2, to celebrate Force Friday II on September 1.
Any fan of the movie series should immediately recognize R2-D2. Just like BB-8, R2-D2 can be controlled with the companion Sphero Droids app. It features an integrated speaker so fans can hear the droid’s iconic beeps and boops. There are also authentic LED lights on the front and rear.
The new BB-9E will first appear in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” hitting theaters on Dec. 15. A sinister version of BB-8 used by the First Order. It will receive updates and other goodies before and after the movie is released.
Both new droids can also interact with BB-8 and even watch any “Star Wars” movie and react accordingly.
You can find more information about both BB-9E and R2-D2 now on Sphero’s site. They should both be available to order starting tomorrow. R2-D2 will cost $179.99 while the BB-9E will retail for $149.99.
