Apple Might Stop Bundling the Lightning to 3.5mm Adapter With New 2018 iPhones

After including the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter with all new iPhone for two years, Apple could stop the practice starting with 2018 models.

That’s according to a new note to investors from Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis and his associates (via MacRumors.)

“We currently model no dongle this year,” the analysts predicted, in a research note obtained by MacRumors today.

Since the introduction of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in 2016, the first two handsets without a headphone jack, Apple has included the adapter. It allows users to continue to use their corded headphones with newer iPhone models.

Apple currently offers the Lightning to 3.5mm Adapter directly from its site or at a local Apple Store for $9. There are also a number of other third-party options available.

With the popularity of Apple’s own AirPods, and other wireless headphones, it doesn’t surprise me that Apple might make the decision to pull the adapter from new iPhone models.
