Track Your Habits With a Quick Tap Using Patterns

November 7, 2023

Interactive widgets on the iPhone, starting with iOS 17, have opened up a wide variety of ways to use apps without having to leave your home screen.

Whether you’re wanting to check off a to-do, scroll through the 7-day weather forecast, or something else, you can do it with just a tap. And with the new app Patterns, you can quickly and easily log anything you can imagine.

One of the best parts of the app is its simplicity. There’s no need to create an account or wonder how to get started. After opening it up, you’ll create your first habit to track and specify an icon, color, and name. You can also customize the habit interval, every day, week, or month.

After adding what you’d want to track, you can then add the home screen widget. Long press the home screen and then choose the + in the upper left hand side. There are three size options to choose from to best fit your current home screen layout—small, medium and large.

When you want to log a habit, just press it on the home screen. To see a a full view of the past days, you can open up the app. For something like this, the simplicity makes it perfect for someone who wants to start logging their habits without a lot of extra work.

Only for the iPhone, Patterns is a free download now on the App Store.

With the free version, you can add a maximum of five habits to track.

To unlock logging unlimited habits, you’ll need a subscription. That’s $1.49 per month or $11.99 yearly. Family sharing subscription are also available for a bit more

The yearly subscription does have a 7-day free trial. Subscribers can also use alternate app icons for their home screen.
