Apple TV Has Been Pois0ned - No Need For SHAtter?

October 20, 2010
Almost one month ago, we told you the new Apple TV could indeed be jailbroken using the famous SHAtter exploit. Since then, geohot and the Chronic Dev Team have released two separate iDevice jailbreak tools between them: limera1n, and greenpois0n. Today, we've heard from 9to5Mac that the latter can also be used to jailbreak Apple TV 2, meaning there's no need to use the valuable SHAtter exploit, yet. As you can see from the image above, greenpois0n can indeed be used to jailbreak Apple's $99 set top box. And, if you're wondering exactly why we're all so excited about this, let me sum it up for you in just two words: applications, and modifications. Currently, nobody in the iOS dev community has managed to install applications on an Apple TV device. Though, we're guessing that this is going to happen pretty soon. Additionally, we've yet to hear about any cool tweaks and modifications being developed, but we're sure they'll come along in time. Until then, be sure to let us know which apps and tweaks you want for your jailbroken Apple TV in the comments below! And, we'll be posting as soon as we hear more.
