BBC iPlayer Hits Europe, €6.99/Month Subscription Fee - Should Reach America Soon

July 28, 2011
The British Broadcasting Corporation has now launched BBC iPlayer in 11 countries across Europe, as expected. The service can be accessed for €6.99/month, or for a €49.99 annual fee. Furthermore, the BBC also released a "global" version of its BBC iPlayer iPad app, which can be downloaded in the App Store for free. As outlined in a press release that recently hit the Web, BBC iPlayer can now be accessed in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland, along with the United Kingdom. The good news for Americans is that the seven euros monthly fee should translate over to around $10. Previously, the BBC noted that this is the maximum amount it will charge American BBC iPlayer users on a monthly basis, when the service finally launches in the United States. The global BBC iPlayer iPad app allows users of the service to stream content over Wi-Fi, or download it to their mobile device for offline viewing. Hopefully, the application should make its way across the Atlantic soon, and launch in the United States. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, European Apple fans can download the BBC iPlayer iPad app (it's available for free) and access the service. Are you planning on subscribing to BBC iPlayer?
