Apple has just announced the launch date for iCloud, the company's cloud-based offering (which we first heard about at WWDC earlier this year), at the iPhone event at the Apple Campus in Cupertino, CA. Importantly, Apple noted that iCloud will launch on October 12 (the same day iOS 5 is scheduled to launch).
The service, which stores users' music, photos, apps, calendars and documents in the cloud, will be available to use for free, and is fully integrated within iOS 5. The service also allows users to backup their iOS device to the cloud, and users get five gigabytes of storage for free.
Furthermore, Apple is launching its "iTunes Match" service in the United States, which costs $24.99/year.
Apple is also launching a new application called "Find My Friends," which is part of iCloud. For more information on the application, take a look at our article.
