Concept: iCam - How The iPhone 5 Could Become An Amazing Digital Camera

November 28, 2011
A new concept published by ADR Studio highlights exactly how Apple could revolutionize the photography industry with the iPhone 5. Since the publication of Walter Isaacson's critically acclaimed biography of Steve Jobs, we've learned that there were a number of areas the Apple co-founder and former CEO hoped to revolutionize. The first is the TV industry, which Apple is expected to further dabble with either next year or the year after, with the "guaranteed" launch of a product many are calling "iTV." The second industry Steve Jobs hoped to tackle involved textbooks (arguably, this has already been addressed with the iPad). Third, Jobs apparently wanted to revolutionize the photography industry. Already, many of us have replaced our portable digital cameras with our iPhones (the iPhone 4, for example, became Flickr's most popular camera back in June). However, Steve Jobs wanted to take things further, and create something that really was a true game-changer for the photography industry. Though little more is known about Jobs's vision regarding such a product, ADR Studio's concept (called "iCam") has got a lot of us excited. The idea involves clipping an iPhone into a camera accessory, which includes a lens and some physical buttons. The accessory also appears to initiate a user interface on the iPhone handset itself, as you can see in the above and below images. ADR Studio's imagined accessory includes the following features:
  • Aluminum Unibody;
  • Interchangeable Apple-Lens Lenses, with iMount mounting system;
  • Front touch screen for self-portraits and for micro-app;
  • LED Flash;
  • Front pico-projector;
  • SD UHS-i slot;
  • Siri Compatible;
  • Motion Sensor;
  • ISO range from 100 to 3200 (extendable up to 6400 equivalent)
  • Full HD at 60fps;
  • 10.1-megapixel sensor;
  • Bluetooth;
Below, we've included a gallery of "iCam" images ADR Studio has created and uploaded to its website.
