Memory: Letters and Numbers Mix ($0.99) by PopAppFactory is another beautiful iPad game for children. This app is very similar in look and feel to other PopAppFactory apps we’ve reviewed, Mosaic HD and Tangram Puzzles. We also enjoyed their app Peekaboo: Find Hidden Fun UFO Characters. Gameplay of course is totally different from their other apps.
Many of us remember the game Memory from our childhood, whether we played with a board game or a deck of cards. There are plenty of Memory apps on the market, but this version is both educational and easy on the eyes. The object of the game is to match up pairs of identical letters and numbers.
Choose Small Board (4x2), Medium Board (6x4), or Big Board (8x5). Turn over tiles in pairs by tapping; if you get a match, they’ll stay turned over. Keep finding pairs until the board is complete. Applause and a congratulatory message greet you when you finish. If you like, you have the option to share your results via email or Facebook.
One thing I really like about this app is that the letters and numbers are reinforced by being spoken out loud when each pair is found. Better yet, the narration is available in several languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, and Ukrainian. Have your child use the app in your native language to strengthen memory and letter/number recognition, or try out a different language to add another layer of learning.
