Samsung Launches A Desktop ChatON Web App

February 29, 2012
Samsung has recently launched a new Web app for its ChatON instant messaging service, which allows users to access the service from a desktop computer, and send and receive messages there. Back in August Samsung announced ChatON - a new cross-platform IM service, which aimed to capture smart phone users looking for a universal, hassle-free instant messaging service and client. Since, the application has launched in Apple's App Store, having already been available for Android and Bada. Now, users can access ChatON on their desktop computers from a recently launched Web app. All the major features of the mobile applications are available in the Web app, and conversations are synced between users' ChatON mobile devices, which is a handy feature. The only problem with the ChatON Web app is that users must have the mobile application installed on their handset in order to enable the online service, as a verification code is required. This is rather odd, but it's something Samsung is insisting on at the moment. The launch of ChatON's desktop Web app comes following the announcement (and beta release) of Messages for Mac, which allows OS X fans to send iMessages to their iOS-using friends and family. If you're a ChatON user, consider taking the desktop Web app for a spin. You can access it online via this link.
