Quirky App Of The Day: How Quickly Can You Expect To Die In A Zombie Outbreak?

July 3, 2012
I'm a fanatic about the zombie apocalypse. I'm learning to shoot a gun just so that I'm not a team killer. I enjoy zombie trivia, and I recommend "Pride And Prejudice And Zombies." The chance to test my trivia knowledge in a zombie apocalypse setting was tempting. Rather than release a secretly contained "patient zero" into the populace for my own entertainment and curiosity, I settled for Zombie Outbreak. Zombie Outbreak walks you through the beginning stages of the zombie apocalypse until the bitter end. There are seven chapters in the app. Each one deals with a different aspect of the apocalypse. There are chapters about weapons, retreating to a safe location, and delaying your own zombification. Each question has four different answers. At first, I thought it was a "choose your own adventure" set up. It's actually a true test of zombie knowledge. There is a correct answer to each question. I was surprised that there were some pretty tricky questions in the mix. There were questions about where the last zombie sighting was or where the most secure city is located. The questions that you answer correctly keep the same background as the chapter. If you get the question wrong, a zombie growls at you, and the screen goes red. However, anyone with a basic understanding of zombies and the disease should have a decent advantage over people like my mom who abhor anything having to do with zombies. Once you've answered all the questions, the game calculates how long you are expected to live. At my best, I would last a few weeks. I'm not sure how I feel about that. The game also takes into account the amount of time it took to answer each question. Therefore, googling the answer to each question wouldn't help you out. If you're familiar with the book "The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection From The Living Dead," then you're at an advantage. I recognized some of the information found in the book. I learned quite a bit about zombies and perfected my personal apocalypse plan. There were details that were common sense, and I had never considered them before. With Zombie Outbreak being a free and universal app, there really isn't any reason not to download it and test yourself. It's always better to be prepared for the unlikely, rather than to suffer with the masses. If you had to choose between a shotgun or a flamethrower, which weapon would you choose?
