Winter, Spring, Summer Or Fall, All You Have To Do Is Run Like The Wind!

Winter, Spring, Summer Or Fall, All You Have To Do Is Run Like The Wind!

August 4, 2012
Former AppAdvice Game of the Week title holder On The Wind has been upgraded to version 2.0, gaining two new game modes in the process. On The Wind gives new meaning to the expression, "Run like the wind!" It's an endless runner in which the runner is actually the wind. On The Wind requires you to control the wind as it collects leaves along the way for it to continue blowing. It's something like a side-scrolling iOS version of PS3's Flower. As you progress through the game's four seasons, the wind gradually loses its gathering of leaves. The same thing happens every time it hits the ground or a barrier. As might be expected, the game ends the moment you run out of leaves to bear along the breeze. But in one of the two new modes of On The Wind, you never run out of leaves to sustain your multi-seasonal journey. In Zen mode, you can just relax as you enjoy the game's Retina-quality landscapes. That's because you're invulnerable in Zen mode. You still lose leaves for the same set of circumstances as in the game's original mode, but you're never left with none. Rest assured that there's always that last remaining leaf to get you through, even if you fail to collect more leaves. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Collecting more leaves in Zen mode does have its reward, though. As in the original mode, the number of leaves you collect in Zen mode is taken into account in the computation of your score. EX mode, the other new mode, also challenges you to strive for a high score. Greatly contributing to On The Wind's replay factor, this mode has quicker transitions between seasons and more difficult wind trajectories. EX mode is just like the original mode, except that it's "faster, harder, shorter." Of course, with the addition of two new game modes comes the addition of extra achievements to unlock in On The Wind. Less notably, the game now has a winter-themed icon, replacing the original spring-themed icon. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, On The Wind is available in the App Store for $1.99. Update or download On The Wind now and run like the wind!
