With iOS 6, Apple has officially scrapped its original native YouTube iOS app. In response to this, Google has released a replacement YouTube app designed for iPhone; an iPad-compatible YouTube app is yet to be released by the tech giant. But if you ask me, there’s a far better way to consume videos on whatever iDevice you have. And it comes in the form of the newly updated Squrl Video Discovery app.
Squrl has received an update that makes it optimized for the new iPhone 5’s screen size as well as for the just-released iOS 6. But apart from this twofold optimization that is only to be expected anyway, the update brings a few other improvements that are perhaps more worthy of note.
Foremost among these is universal search. With this new function, you can use Squrl to search for specific movies, TV shows, or videos across a variety of video sources, be they free or premium.
With such providers as YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, and Vimeo and with the help of your Facebook and Twitter connections, you’re all but certain to find the video you’re looking for.
But if you happen to have nothing particular in mind, then you can just let Squrl do its job with the new Recommended section.
Based on your viewing behaviors and unique tastes in videos, the Recommended section can suggest videos from various sources and curators for you to watch.
Also featuring a neat, new interface that includes a new What’s Hot section, the newly updated Squrl Video Discovery app is available now in the App Store for free.
