Instagram Breaks Records On Thanksgiving Day

Instagram and Thanksgiving seem to go together like turkey and pumpkin pie. On its blog, Instagram announced that yesterday was the busiest day in the service’s history.
More than 10 million photos shared yesterday mentioned Thanksgiving-themed words in the captions. And for some part of the day, more than 200 photos about the holiday were posted every second. As you can see, the Thanksgiving photos peaked around 12:40 p.m. PST time. The number of photos shared on Thursday more than doubled the amount of photos shared on Wednesday.
Sadly, Instagram didn’t say how many of those photos were of user’s Thanksgiving meals. But seriously, I actually saw more fun photos of family and friends on my Instagram feed rather than random shots of turkey and dressing. And that does give me a little hope.
Instagram was scooped up by Facebook in April for $1 billion. Earlier this week, news broke that the unification of Facebook and Instagram accounts is slowly moving closer to reality.
Facebook is testing a new feature that will allow users of its popular app to automatically upload photos to the social network. And Instagram recently expanded its Web presence with the introduction of some very Facebook-like profile pages that highlight recently shared photos and a bio of the user.
Instagram is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and can be downloaded for free in the App Store now.
What did you share on Instagram yesterday?
