Finally, the number of Lightning-compatible speakers is growing even larger. One of my favorite audio manufacturers, Soundfreaq, has just announced a slate of new products that will hit the market in 2013.
First up, the company will be releasing a Lightning-enabled version of its Sound Rise bedroom speaker, radio, and alarm clock. The pictured system will allow iPad mini and iPhone 5 users to dock and charge their devices.
Also introduced were Lightning versions of the larger Sound Step and Sound Step Recharge speakers. The Recharge features a built-in rechargeable battery.
No prices were released for those three products, and availability is listed as sometime in spring 2013.
Soundfreaq also unveiled the second version of the Sound Platform speaker. The Sound Platform 2 is highlighted by dual system streaming Bluetooth. That allows two speakers to be paired together wirelessly to work as one system with both left and right audio output.
It also features dual USB charging ports and a universal device tray that slides out to hold any smartphone or tablet while streaming and charging. The charging cables are kept tucked away and out of sight. The Sound Platform 2 will retail for $149.99 and be on sale exclusively at Target stores on Feb. 17, 2013.
I reviewed Soundfreaq’s Sound Kick earlier this year, and was blown away by the quality of audio from a simple $99 Bluetooth speaker. I also named the Sound Kick one of my top three holiday gift ideas for any iOS device owner.
