You can’t say Rovio doesn’t follow up on a promise. Just a day after releasing a teaser photo, Angry Birds Star Wars has been updated with 20 brand-new levels.
The new content chronicles the Rebel birds escape from the icy planet Hoth with those bad Pigtroopers in close pursuit.
Mirroring the escape from “The Empire Strikes Back,” the release notes say that the nearby asteroid field could provide some cover for the birds, but that there may be more than meets the eye.
Along with two new bonus levels in version 1.1.2 of the app, gamers will also get their first look at mynock pigs in the belly of the asteroid. Once again, the birds will have to battle a moving boss in the finale of the escape episodes.
Angry Birds Star Wars was a massive hit the second it landed in the App Store late last year. In less than 2.5 hours in the App Store, it easily took the No. 1 spot on the paid charts.
It also recently garnered some critical acclaim, landing a nomination in the Excellence in Gameplay category at the 9th Annual International Mobile Gaming Awards. The IMGA Awards winners will be announced on March 28 in San Francisco. The app was also named the AppAdvice Game of the Week shortly after its release.
There are two separate versions of the app. Angry Birds Star Wars HD, designed for the iPad and iPad mini, can be downloaded in the App Store for $2.99. The iPhone/iPod touch version of the game is $0.99 and can be downloaded now as well.
