Who says the jailbreaking community is dead? In an interview with Forbes, Cydia administrator Jay Freeman says the Evasi0n tool to jailbreak iOS 5 and 6 devices has been installed by almost 7 million users since it was released on Monday. That makes Evasi0n the fastest-adopted jailbreaking method ever. As of last night, the alternate App Store had been visited by 5.15 million iPhones, 1.35 million iPads, and 400,000 iPod touch devices that used the untethered Evasi0n. Even though Freeman didn’t have exact traffic numbers from previous jailbreaking attempts, the new method has brought “insanely more new traffic” to Cydia than Absinthe. And the famous web-based Jalibreakme.com from hacker Comex was only used 1.4 million times in the first nine days online. Freeman attributed the large amount of traffic to the pent-up demand for a jailbreak solution. It took more than 136 days for a jailbreak to appear for iOS 6. For comparison, it took 98 days for the iPhone 4S, 38 days for the iPhone 4, and just two weeks for the iPhone 3GS.
"That's what made this such a landmark jailbreak," says Freeman. "It had been so long and we were all so hungry for it."If you’re interested in jailbreaking your device, take a look at our previous coverage of Evasi0n.
