Evernote Implements Password Reset Following Security Breach

March 3, 2013
A few hours ago, it was discovered that the network behind Evernote, the popular suite of note-taking and archiving services, was seriously hacked. So seriously, it seemed, that the Evernote team decided to implement a network-wide password reset. Fortunately, content stored in Evernote was neither accessed nor lost. But user credentials, including usernames, email addresses, and passwords were said to have been accessed. Fortunately again, Evernote passwords are protected by encryption. But the Evernote team is taking an "abundance of caution" anyway as it now requires users to reset their Evernote passwords. If you're an Evernote user, you can reset your password on Evernote.com. Alternatively, you can do it in the Evernote and Evernote Hello iOS apps or in the Evernote Mac app, all of which have received security updates. After updating any of these Evernote apps, you will be required to sign in using your current password and change it right after. In addition, Evernote for Mac has gained the following new features:
  • New Premium feature: Evernote search now works with your office documents
  • Re-designed menu bar Helper called Quick Note: Create a note any time by clicking the helper or CMD+CTRL+N
  • New redesigned welcome window
  • Multi-select Tags in the Sidebar by CMD-clicking
The security updates to Evernote and Evernote Hello for iOS are available now in the App Store. The security and content update to Evernote for Mac, on the other hand, is available now in the Mac App Store. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
