Fantastical For iPhone Updated With New Event List View, Callback URL And More

Fantastical, the popular iPhone calendar app that is true to its name, has just received another update. The latest update to the app, which is the official iOS edition of the similarly popular Fantastical calendar app for Mac, brings a number of improvements and bug fixes. One improvement is the newly added setting that shows only one day at a time in the event list. This serves as an alternative to the default infinite event list, which can be quite confusing at times. Another is x-callback-url support, allowing for smoother interactions between Fantastical and other apps. Fantastical developer Flexibits explains:

x-callback-url can be used by using fantastical://x-callback-url/parse?parameters or fantastical://x-callback-url/show?parameters. The parameters x-source, x-success, x-cancel, and x-error are all supported. Refer to the x-callback-url site for more details.

Yet another improvement is the app's better handling of invitations for recurring events. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Fantastical has also been updated to remove the ability to add multiple alerts to Exchange events for the simple reason that Exchange doesn't support it. As for the bug fixes delivered by the update, here they are:

• Fixed a bug where the times of new events could get ignored when time zone support was disabled
• Fixed days in the DayTicker from appearing with extra characters in some languages
• Fixed a bug where location text could get colored incorrectly sometimes

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 5.0 or later, Fantastical is available in the App Store for $4.99. In her review of the app, my colleague Christine noted that "Fantastical is, quite literally, fantastic." I and my other colleagues here on AppAdvice agreed (and still do agree), as evidenced by the App of the Week title given to Fantastical shortly after its release in November last year.
