A couple of weeks ago, the cross-platform instant messaging app MessageMe was released in the App Store. Now, it's among the top 20 free iPhone social networking apps as well as among the New and Noteworthy in the App Store. Also, it has now gotten its first ever update. MessageMe's first update includes the following improvements:
But along with these improvements comes the removal of the app's support for adding friends through Facebook. Several days ago, it was reported that Facebook had blocked MessageMe's ability to search for friends on the social network. Apparently, MessageMe had been found to be in violation of a Facebook policy that states: "You may not use Facebook Platform to promote, or to export user data to, a product or service that replicates a core Facebook product or service without our permission." Evidently, the core Facebook product or service in this case is Facebook Messenger, which, like MessageMe, allows for instant communication among friends. Well, now it's official. MessageMe no longer includes an option for adding friends via Facebook since it's no longer able to serve that purpose. Note, though, that you can still add friends in MessageMe by entering their phone numbers, email address, or MessageMe PINs. The app also encourages you to invite your contacts via SMS. Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.3 or later, the new version of MessageMe is available now in the App Store for free. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
