April 29, 2013
Google Now, the Siri-like software assistant that has been available for Android since July 2012, has recently appeared in the universal Google Search app. In Google Search 3.0, iDevice owners can use the location-aware Google Now to easily search for weather, sports results, travel information, and more from within Google's free iOS application. As outlined by Google in the release notes for version 3.0 of its app:
Get just the right information at just the right time with Google Now.
  • weather and traffic conditions before you start your day
  • updates on your favorite sports teams and breaking news stories as they happen

But that's not all. Besides weather, traffic, sports information, and breaking news, users of the Google Now-equipped Google Search app can also house boarding passes, manage restaurant reservations, and stay up to date with events. Furthermore, Google Now can keep tabs on upcoming birthdays, package shipments, movies, and stocks. The service also features Zillow and Fandango integration. Finally, with Google Now, iDevice owners can also receive updates on public transportation and nearby events, and the service provides access to language translation and currency conversion tools. Impressed? I'll bet you are. As mentioned, Google Now features in the recently updated Google Search app, which can be downloaded in the App Store free of charge, and is optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
