Popular Restaurant Reservation App OpenTable Finally Goes Universal

May 29, 2013
Four and a half years after its launch in the App Store, OpenTable has finally gone universal. Released way back in November 2008 as an app optimized for iPhone and iPod touch only, the OpenTable app has just been optimized for iPad as well. Note, though, that there's already a separate OpenTable for iPad app, which was released in June 2010. The new universal iOS app offers, above all, the convenience of having to download only one restaurant reservation app for both iPhone and iPad. As a result, the now redundant OpenTable for iPad is likely to be pulled from the App Store soon. In addition, OpenTable for iOS offers the following enhancements:
  • New sleek menus (swipe left and right between different meals)
  • New look and feel for reviews
  • Refreshed design for search results, now including star ratings for restaurants
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, OpenTable is available in the App Store for free. OpenTable for iPad is still available in the App Store, also for free, but I suggest you download the universal app instead. The OpenTable app also features on its restaurant pages the most popular dishes from Foodspotting, which OpenTable acquired last January. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
