Puzzlejuice Finally Gets Updated With iPhone 5 Support And Then Some
May 7, 2013
Last time we heard from Asher Vollmer, the creator of the popular iOS word puzzle game Puzzlejuice, he had just graduated from college. That was in late August last year, when he pushed an update to Puzzlejuice that added new modes, objectives, leaderboards, and more. Fast forward to now, and Asher is back with some news and another Puzzlejuice update.
"This update is overdue," Asher admits in the update's release notes. "My day job was keeping me from the upkeep of Puzzlejuice, which is one of the reasons I left. I am now following my dream of being a completely independent game developer and, as my first act of independence I decided to give Puzzlejuice the update it deserves."
If you'll recall, the iPhone 5 was released in September last year, just a few weeks after Puzzlejuice's previous update. But it's only now that Puzzlejuice has finally gained iPhone 5 support. Better late than never, right?

The new Puzzlejuice update also brings a new classic-looking icon, new achievements, bug fixes, performance optimizations, and a new power-up menu.
The new power-up menu actually accommodates another important change. "In an effort to continue being independent," Asher explains, "I’ve added the ability to purchase power-ups you haven’t earned yet."
Asher maintains, though, that this new set-up, which is entirely optional, has no bearing on the balance of the game.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, the new version of Puzzlejuice is available now in the App Store as a free update or as a new $1.99 download.
Released in January last year, Puzzlejuice remains one of the best word games on iOS, in league with such greats as SpellTower and the newer Letterpress.
My colleague Christine praised it upon its release, noting that "Puzzlejuice is the only game puzzle fans need."
