AOL Reader To Launch On Monday, One Week Before The Demise Of Google Reader

AOL hopes to replace Google as your newsreader source. On Monday, June 24, the company is planning to release AOL Reader. This will come less than a week before it’s lights out for Google Reader. Very little is known about AOL Reader, although the company did recently post a scant preview page, and confirmed the product’s existence on Twitter.

Based on this information, we now know that AOL Reader is launching on the Web, and through smartphones and tablets. Additionally, the service looks to include star and tag features. Best of all, AOL will allow users to upload their subscriptions for “another RSS reader” using a “simple import.” AOL is also providing an API to developers. Other features “coming soon” include:

• Native iOS and Android Apps
• Export feeds to OPML
• Sharing within AOL Reader and with other AOL Reader users
• Integration with additional third party services
• Search
• Notifications

In March, Google announced plans to shut down its popular Reader service on June 30. Since then, numerous companies have come forward to fill the void including Feedly, Rockmelt, and NetNewsWire.
