Watch Out, Foursquare: Yelp Introduces New Feature For Local Business Discovery
June 11, 2013
Amid all the excitement surrounding the launch of iOS 7 and the other new stuff Apple announced in its WWDC keynote address yesterday, Yelp has announced something new of its own.
The company behind the popular local search and review service of the same name has just issued a significant update to its official iOS app. With this update, Yelp appears to be taking on Foursquare as it introduces a new local business discovery feature:
Many people know that they can turn to Yelp’s mobile apps to look up a great nearby business while they’re on the go, but have you ever found yourself out and about and not knowing exactly what you want? You wander the streets with the distinctive faltering gait of an indecisive luncher, heading toward one option, then changing your mind and lurching in the opposite direction. Well, wander no more, fellow Yelper! We’ve got good news: starting today, we’ve revamped our Nearby tab to present you with suggestions geared toward you, where you are and what you are in the mood for (available today on iPhone, coming soon on Android). With Yelp's new Nearby page, you can now discover local businesses recommended by the service based on your location, prior check-ins and reviews, and friends' activity. What's more, it also takes the time of day and the current weather into consideration when suggesting places for you to check out. In line with this new feature, the Yelp app's Events page has also been revamped to show the most popular events from the Nearby tab. The new and improved Yelp for iOS is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
