Finally, Twitter Apps Sync Direct Message Read Status

July 8, 2013
With one update, Twitter has finally squashed one of the most annoying quirks of its official iOS app. In version 5.8 of the app, when you read a direct message, it will be marked as read in all official Twitter clients, including Twitter for Mac,,, and even TweetDeck. Here’s the list of other improvements in the update:
  • It’s easier to join conversations with a new reply composer in the Tweet details view on iPhone
  • Find new accounts to follow by tapping the new people button in the navigation bar
  • Richer search results indicate when there are new Tweets for your query and show account results with bios and social context
  • Report unwanted Tweets via the “More” button
Twitter is a universal app designed for both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It can be downloaded now in the App Store for free.
