Ninja Match-Three Game Kurabi Introduces New Ability, Leaderboards And Retries
July 21, 2013
The Dots-esque match-three puzzler Kurabi has just received its second major update.
Released last May, Kurabi is a turn-based match-three game with a unique set of mechanics.
In the game, which employs a best-of-three playoff, you have to match three or more tokens of the same color, but you only get to score points when you match gold tokens. Matching more than three tokens at a time creates combo tokens. Special ninja abilities are also available to give you an edge over your opponents.
As it happens, the latest update to Kurabi introduces a new ninja ability in the form of Taiko Rhythm, in addition to the ninja abilities that it gained through its first major update. You have to move fast in order to activate Taiko Rhythm, but while active, it ensures that your every move strikes.
The new Kurabi update also introduces leaderboards, which lets you see how you perform against all players around the world, against your Game Center pals, and against your Facebook friends. These leaderboards are said to use the Elo rating system for accurate ranking and statistics.
Finally, the update introduces the concept of retries to Kurabi:
You can now unlock up to 5 retry tokens that will allow you to retry a round BEFORE knowing if you won it or not. This way, if you have a really crappy round, you can give it another spin. These tokens are expensive so they can't be abused. Retries are meant to help you if you get stuck, accidentally use up too much zen, etc.The new version of Kurabi, which is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later, is available now in the App Store for free. The free download lets you start up to three matches at once. If you want to be able to play more, and remove in-game ads in the process, you have to go pro via a $1.99 in-app purchase.
