Pocket Read-Later App Finally Adds The One Feature I've Long Been Waiting For

September 26, 2013
Pocketthe popular read-later app formerly known as, well, Read It Later — has just received a minor update on the heels of its big iOS 7 update. A week ago, on the same day as the launch of iOS 7, Pocket received a major update that's focused on the new operating system. That update brought a redesigned interface, instant background sync, speed enhancements, and an improved reading experience. Unfortunately, it didn't bring the one feature I'd long been waiting to see in Pocket. I'm referring to the ability to swipe right in order to return to the article list, which has long been supported in Pocket's most prominent competitors, Instapaper and Readability. Fortunately, Pocket's new follow-up update has rectified this omission. Now, iOS 7's convenient "swipe right from left edge to go back" gesture has been implemented in Pocket. Using this gesture on iPhone or iPod touch, you, me, and other iOS 7 users can now easily return to the article list in Pocket. Note that as in previous versions of the app, swiping from anywhere but the left edge simply activates page flipping. The latest update to Pocket also delivers the following fixes:
  • VoiceOver support restored
  • App badge count updates when Pocket syncs in the background
  • List layout is saved if the app is closed
  • App no longer gets stuck after authorizing a 3rd party app
  • Lots of additional fixes for crashes, minor bugs, and design refinements
The new version of Pocket is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
