Apple Hosts Recruitment Drive Near BlackBerry’s Canadian Headquarters

October 10, 2013
Apple is looking to capitalize on BlackBerry’s misfortune. According to the Financial Post, Apple hosted a recruitment drive close to the smartphone maker’s Canadian headquarters just days after the company announced plans to layoff 40 percent of its workforce. The report quoted a LinkedIn invite sent to some BlackBerry employees for the Sept. 26 event:
“Most positions will be based in Cupertino, CA.,” according to a LinkedIn invite sent to certain BlackBerry employees and obtained by the Financial Post. “Relocation and immigration assistance will be provided for candidates that are hired, as needed.”
Three days earlier, BlackBerry received a $4.7 billion takeover bid from Fairfax Financial. Recent reports say that officials are also looking into breaking up the company and selling it in pieces. Blackberry's attempt to release the BBM Messenger app for both iOS and Android devices recently hit a big snag. Because of a leaked version of the Android app, the company delayed the scheduled global rollout. Some users in the Asia Pacific region were able to download the iPhone app before it was pulled from the store. We’ve yet to hear any information about when the company plans to reschedule the rollout.
