Target To Launch Brightspot, Its Own Prepaid Mobile Service Brand

Following rival retailer Walmart, Target is set to launch its own prepaid mobile service brand - called Brightspot - this Sunday, Oct. 6. Offering customers unlimited talk and text plans starting from $35 per month, the service uses T-Mobile's network and promises to bring customers "the mobile phone plans [they] want with the devices [they] desire."
First announced in a post published at Target's company blog, prices indeed start at $35 per month for unlimited talk and text. However, for $50, Brightspot offers customers unlimited data alongside this (though high-speed data use is capped at 1GB per month), and subscribers of any plan are also sent a $25 Target gift card every six months.
The retailer explains:
We know guests are looking for customizable and convenient mobile plans that won’t break the bank. Starting Oct. 6, Target will offer guests more options and flexibility with brightspot, the Bullseye’s fresh, new mobile program. brightspot brings together the mobile phone plans you want with the devices you desire.Target vice president of Electronics John Butcher said: "Target guests have been asking us for new mobile plan options to meet their changing needs, and Brightspot combines the flexibility of a pre-paid program with 4G data on one of the nation’s premier networks." Customers can choose a handset or smartphone to use with Brightspot, or they can bring their own compatible phone, and Target Red Card customers can also enjoy five percent off their monthly bill. Of course, the move compete's with Walmart's own Smart Talk offering, which has presented iDevice users with compelling deals and unlimited plans in the past. Interested?
