The iPhone-Powered iKettle Promises To Bring Tea-Making Into The 21st Century

October 10, 2013
The world's first Wi-Fi kettle, which can be controlled using an iPhone handset, is set to reach stores later this year. Called the "iKettle," the $159.99 product can be preordered online and is set to reach customers around late November or early December. Besides offering a sleek and stylish stainless steel kettle, once connected to an iPhone handset (over Wi-Fi) the iKettle really comes alive. From a companion iPhone app, then, iKettle owners can remotely set the product off heating water for a cup of tea or coffee, and the iKettle will let users know once the hot water is ready. You can also configure iKettle to heat water to a certain temperature, depending on what drink you're looking to prepare. Coffee, for example, calls for water heated to around 95 degrees Celsius, while green tea must be served at 80 degrees C. The clever iKettle can do this easily, either from the iPhone app or using the built-in temperature buttons which appear at the base of the device, as in the below image. But the fun doesn't stop there. The companion iKettle app can wake users up by asking if they'd like the application to "pop the kettle on," and upon returning home after a day at work, iKettle will automatically offer owners the same question. Along with Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/gx), features of the product include:
  • Control your iKettle via your mobile device
  • Easy one-touch set up
  • Wake up and Welcome home mode/Timer
  • Choose from four temperature settings
  • Keep warm feature
  • Super easy to clean - removable filter and no internal element
  • Auto shut off with boil-dry protection
  • Stainless steel design with soft-touch handle
  • LED backlit control panel
Below, we've included a gallery of images taken from iKettle's product page, which provide a closer look at the item. As mentioned, the futuristic iKettle can be preordered online from Firebox for $159.99, and the product is expected to reach tea- and coffee-makers in late November and early December.
