Shortly after releasing the minor iOS 7.0.4 update to the public, Apple also issued version 6.0.2 of the Apple TV software.
There are apparently no new features in the update. The release notes only say that the software “includes general performance and stability improvements."
You can download the software update immediately by going to Settings, General, Software Updates, Update Software on the Apple TV.
We’ll let you know if we find any interesting in version 6.0.2.
Another minor update, version 6.0.1 was released in late October. Version 6.0 arrived in September and brought a stable full of new features, including iTunes Radio, AirPlay from iCloud, and Bluetooth 4.0 integration.
The Apple TV’s immediate future looks a little hazy. Updated hardware failed to materialize at the October introduction of the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display.
Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said an A7-powered Apple TV box will arrive in 2014 while the fabled HDTV set might finally appear a year later.
That lines up with a recent report that says Apple is focusing on wearable devices, like the rumored iWatch, for the immediate future. That’s due in large part because the entertainment industry hasn't been thrilled with Apple’s approach to a standalone television.
