AgileBits' 1Password For Mac Gets New Login Prompt, Custom Password Fields

December 6, 2013
Later today, Mac users will be able to get hold of an updated version of 1Password for Mac that adds a new login prompt, custom password fields, improved auto-save, an enhanced search, and more to the comprehensive password management system. The folks at AgileBits are calling this “the little big update,” and it's clear why; labeled as 1Password 4.1, the update nevertheless adds a bunch of great, asked-for features to the $49.99 Mac app. First, the updated 1Password for Mac will allow users to present items in a multi-column display from within the application (“Top Item List Layout”), and individual columns can be sorted, ordered, and resized. Improved search means users can also perform searches across “All Fields” in 1Password 4.1, if the item they're looking for isn't found following a regular app search. Individual items can now be printed using the “Share” menu, and one's entire list of items can be sent to a printer, too. As outlined in the update's change log, further alterations include:
Auto-Save:
  • You can now Tag and assign a Folder when saving a Login from the browser.
  • When changing a password you can select whether to save a new Login or update the existing one.
  • Redundant generated passwords are now removed after saving or updating a Login.
Custom Password Fields:
  • Add custom password fields to your items (for example, website security questions).
  • Convert existing text fields into concealed password fields.
Adding Support For:

  • Dutch and Afrikaans localization.
Finally, a number of Wi-Fi syncing problems have been corrected in 1Password 4.1, and several security enhancements have been made to the application. There's no better time to take 1Password for Mac for a spin. Sure, Apple launched its own free competing service, iCloud Keychain, with OS X Mavericks; but those looking to gain a serious password management app for their Mac computer should consider 1Password. Plus, there's an iOS counterpart, 1Password for iOS, which can be downloaded for $9.99 for today only (as part of a one-off sale) and syncs wirelessly with the Mac app. This application has also received a bunch of updates over the past year, and one of the most recent brought Wi-Fi sync to the app. The updated 1Password for Mac should be available through the Mac App Store and from AgileBits' website later today.
