Apple Publishes iOS 7.1 Beta 2 For Registered iOS Developers

December 13, 2013

Apple has launched the second beta of iOS 7.1, an update to its major iOS 7 release that makes a few minor adjustments and alterations to the mobile operating system. For registered iOS developers, iOS 7.1 beta 2 can be downloaded now from Apple's Developer website, or as an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

Changes made in iOS 7.1 beta 2 are indeed minor, as you'd expect. Bug fixes for tones have been applied, and the Touch ID options in the built-in Settings app have also been moved from the General tab over to the application's main menu.

There's a new “spring” animation for Control Center, and a “Button Shapes” option can be enabled in order to highlight touchable areas of the iDevice's screen. Plus, the “dark keyboard” toggle appears to have been removed from the Accessibility tab in the Settings app.

Apple launched iOS 7.1 beta 1 back in November, and as we explained in our article:

iOS 7.1 features a new dialog in Notification Center when cleared. The Yahoo logo that appeared in Settings in iOS 7.04 is now also shown in Notification Center, and the native Weather and Stocks app.

Based on Apple's previous release cycles for its mobile OS, we're expecting iOS 7.1 to reach the general public some time in January. But of course, we'll let you know once the software launches, so check back with us.
