Caustic Offers An Advanced Rack-Mount Synthesizer For iPhone, iPad

December 16, 2013

The music-makers out there may be interested to hear that a new app, Caustic, promises to offer an impressive rack-mount synthesizer for iOS that features a total of 14 different machines and several effects. Caustic can be downloaded for $9.99, and is optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

There are a number of similar apps for Apple's mobile OS, but Caustic is impressive for a number of reasons. For one, it features a large amount of powerful machines which can be combined to create immersive audio tracks; for another, it's optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch (as well as for the iPad), providing users with access to a truly mobile music creation experience for iOS.

According to its developer, machines offered by Caustic include:

  • Subsynth - Virtual analog subtractive synthesizer
  • PCMSynth - Multi-sample wave synthesizer
  • BassLine - 303-like monosynth
  • BeatBox - 8-channel sampling drum machine
  • PadSynth - Harmonic table pad synthesizer
  • 8BitSynth - 8bit equation solver synthesizer
  • Modular - Fully configurable and routable synthesizer
  • Organ - Tonewheel organ with rotary speaker
  • Vocoder - 8-band harmonic vocoder
  • FMSynth - DX-style 3-operator fm synthesizer

Plus, Caustic also features 16 different kinds of effects, and two effects per machine can be added using the application; a “Mixer Desk” provides advanced options for users, and a song sequencer is also included in the app, too.

Finally, files can be exported (as WAVs) for use in other third-party applications, and an in-app “Help” section provides detailed information on Caustic complete with a bunch of tutorial videos, for those who aren't so familiar with virtual synthesizers.

As mentioned, Caustic can be downloaded in the App Store for $9.99, and it's optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
