Even though it only arrived in the App Store back in late October, superb calendar app Fantastical 2 has just recently been updated for a third time.
And version 2.0.3 of the app adds two great new features. First up, the app is now compatible with TextExpander. Users need to have version 2.3 of the app installed, which was released earlier this month. With TextExpander, users can automatically expand abbreviations into longer bits of text.
The update also adds an option to open maps with popular crowdsourced GPS app Waze.
Along with squashing a number of smaller bugs, the update specifically fixes problems when editing recurring events with Google calendar and an issue where future events wouldn’t load if a lot of reminders existed.
Designed for the iPhone/iPod touch, Fantastical 2 can be downloaded now in the App Store for $3.99.
Building off of the popular original app, Fantastical 2 offers an iOS 7 inspired design and a number of other improvements like support for reminders.
In our original review, Christine Chan offered some high praise:
I’ve been using Fantastical 2 for quite some time now, and it’s easily one of the best calendar apps that has graced my iPhone home screen. It’s fast, intuitive, looks great, and the new reminders feature makes it a complete and comprehensive calendaring and task solution (for simple things, anyway, I’ll stick with OmniFocus 2 for the more complicated stuff). It was also easily named as our AppAdvice App of the Week soon after its release. Its first update, version 2.0.1, arrived in November and brought notification sounds and a stable of other goodies.
