Opera's Coast iPad Web Browser Goes 2.0 With New Notable Enhancements

December 17, 2013
Coast by Opera has just been updated to version 2.0. Released last September, Coast is touted by Opera as "the best browser for your iPad." And it may very well be just that if your idea of the best iPad browser primarily concerns a no-frills interface with a predominant reliance on special touch gestures. Coast received its first major update a couple of weeks after its release. That update mainly brought optimizations for the then just-launched iOS 7. Its second major update, though, is decidedly more significant as it delivers several notable enhancements. First off, Coast 2.0 features faster back page navigation in many cases. Back page navigation, by the way, is accomplished in Coast by simply swiping to the right — as opposed to swiping to the left, which, of course, carries out forward page navigation. Coast 2.0 also features inter-app functionality for PDF documents, enabling you to quickly open PDFs in other apps such as iBooks, Adobe Reader, and Dropbox. The latest update to Coast also includes a couple of enhancements to its home screen. One of this is easy wallpaper customization. Now, you can just long-press on the home screen to select a new wallpaper or set a new one right from your photo library. As for the other home screen enhancement, it has to do with tiles that have music or video playing. Now, such tiles are indicated by an equalizer animation. What's more, music and video playback can now be easily controlled right from the iOS lock screen. Coast 2.0 is available now in the App Store for free. It's compatible with iPad and iPad mini running iOS 6.0 or later. For more information on Coast, check out our original review of the app here on AppAdvice.
